We would like to modify and/or create a couple of custom blocks. The examples in the manual are a bit meager. We asked customer support but all they did was point us to the manual and offer to code it for us if we give them a spec (and a check). While their price was reasonable, it seems a shame to pay them money for something that we need to learn to do to support our own efforts.

Has anyone created a tutorial or how to on modifying or creating custom blocks that goes beyond the examples of putting text on the screen?

Also, where are blocks located in the file hierarchy. We can probably figure out a great deal by looking at the existing implimentations.

I appreciate your help.

You need to get to grips with these yourself as they are one of the key building blocks of the system.

I expect that you are already adding text boxes:
Administration > Custom Blocks > Edit Block - add new block using html [it is a pity - and strange - that this does not have a rich text editor].

An easy way to do this is to use Firefox as your browser and download from their site the Xinha add on.

You can then click the text field, select "Xinha Here" - type the text and style, click 'OK' and the html is inserted.

Easy.

Some of my blocks - for forms - use Flash inserted into the box.

A bit if time getting to understand this will pay handsome dividends - I use blocks in ways I did not expect when I started: http://www.malikstores.co.uk

Any questions, put them here and you will find plenty of people willing to help. Some with much greater skill than mine, I am sure.

Best wishes
