I've just started out with the Mult-Site package and I've run into several problems that I feel are more bugs than customizations as far as ViArt says.

1.) Orders are only viewable on the site they purchased them on. This would be fine, however seems to me that if they're all connected you would be able to view all orders on all of the sites. If not, why are they able to view their support tickets for all sites from one site.

2.) Merchant Sales. When you go into your account to view merchant sales, it shows all merchant sales. If it wasn't purchased on that site, then there's a dead link to view order. If it's not able to be viewed there, it shouldn't be listed there.

3.) Lots of issues with admin side defaulting to the site_id#1. This poses many different issues.

4.) When loading products, images are saved to the site id #1 and if those products are displayed on other sites, you have to copy the images over manually.

5.) You cannot restrict admins to certain sites.

I'm sure there are more, but this is what I've come up with so far. As I've talked to ViArt, this is supposedly how it works and if I want anything changed I have to pay. I don't really see these as custimizations as much as errors

<<only viewable on the site they purchased>>

Administration > Orders Maintenance:
In the drop down box for 'site' if no site is selected ALL orders show on my set up

<<Merchant Sales>>

Can't help - don't have merchant sales

<<side defaulting to the site_id#1>>

YES it does - have to watch this - see my post on this. I have different header images for each site to show which one I am working on.

<< have to copy the images over manually >>

See also my post on this - I have every image as a full URL to site #1 : then no need to have images on other sites.
EG: Tiny Image = http://www.mysite1.com/tiny/image.jpg
I also use this for category images and anything else.

<< cannot restrict admins >>

Interesting point - not an issue for me but I can see that it would be useful.

Of course I was talking about on the customer's end.

Well, i use the feature to where it auto-generates the images for each product I'm loading for their respected sizes. This means that the link is created by them. I suppose while creating after i hit upload, I could then manually change the link... seems sort of weird.

I doubt there are many people utilizing this feature and that's why they haven't made any fixes yet. But of course they're customizations, not fixes, lol...

Good point on the defaulting to site 1. As a matter of cause I try to choose the site in global settings each time I visit admin. Once habit it seems to stick ok on the site you have choosen However this is fix that is needed based on url and not a customization surely !!

It shouldn't be hard to compate site url to site id and defaukt the site accordingly.

Thanks for the tip off regarding user's only being able to view orders from that site. We have 3 sites retail, wholesale and also collected orders. Its much easier to have them all separate. I will now check out the impact of this on points, rewards etc.

Regarding issue #1 - I agree. If a user has a single account for all sites, then all information relevant to that account should be accessible.

I expected it to do this, but as I am just implementing my multi-sites now I have not discovered the issue. But I would categorise it as an issue not a customisation.

Please ViArt if you are watching, can you take a look at this and note these customers opinion as to customisation/issue.

As there is a big gap in documentation these sort of problems (expectations vs bugs/issues vs customisations) are hard to work though.

Sorry Dan, misunderstood.

It had not occurred to me that customers might buy on more than one site - a bit slow on this Smile

For me I am happy with this but I can appreciate the problems and agree that there should be *option* to restrict users by site

For me the biggest multisite problem is that you can't restrict admins from viewing orders/users information of all sales over all sites.

block_user_orders.php (5Kb)
ViArt has offered a file for customers to be able to view orders on any site. If you're interested, you can download it here. Yahoo! This is why I love ViArt support!

Added Notes:

Sure thing,

When a customer signs in to your site, they're re-directed to their user home area. When they click on View Orders, they see only the orders they've made on that site.

My problem is that one of the things I advertise about my sites is the ability to have all of their information securely in one location. The orders only listed orders purchased on that one specific site though.

Seeing as I have a corp home page, my issue was that I wanted my customers who log in to see all the orders they've made, no matter which site they've logged onto.

This file will enable ALL orders they've made to show up in the list.

YES - I [mistakenly] thought that this was already the case.

My customers may well buy from more than one of my sites.
This is CRUCIAL!!!!

Right. The only thing missing is the site name where they made the purchase. This should be on the order view as well as in the list of orders. I don't know

Hi Dan (and others) great work! This was a potential problem for me as we have 3 sites.

Retail - no Minimum order - Normal Prices
Wholesale - Minimum order £40 Trade prices
Collection only - Minimum order - £25 - Trade price

Does anybody know a way in which a user only need set up 1 account but the rules for the all sites could be observed using 1 log in.

As far as I know there is not a way of doing this as the prices are set at user level so where trade prices are in operation the user type would to be different than normal priced sites....resulting in the need for a user to have 2 different accounts and a potential problem of the email address already being registered etc

sorry hit enter by accident

If trying to register a second account with the same email the following error occurs

"The value in field Personal Details: Email is already in database"

So this is a potential headache unless prices can be set at site level also maybe.

Can anybody offer a solution ??

thanks

Will the file block_user_orders.php offered be standard in the next release or will it need to be treated as a customisation each time ??

Sorry 3 posts I will have a break Smile

From what ViArt has told me, that was just a simple quick fix. This setting will be created in Global Options in a Future Release from what I've been told.

As far as the different structures for pricing on the different sites, this would be corrected if we could add unlimited price types per product and also assign unlimited price types per customer/customer group.
