Okay Guys and Gals,

I'm tired of waiting for people to join the initiative on getting the order editor in place. I've decided to pay for the customization myself and ViArt has agreed to keep the pricing structure reasonable and not make it globally distributed.

If anyone is interested, the cost is 25.00 per hour and will take about 12 hrs to conduct. This will be around 300.00.

I'm truly disappointed in those that use the software, wait for feature releases, but pay no part in contributing to the product.

here's the features I've requested:

I'm looking for the following features:

1.) Ability to add/remove items from an order
2.) Ability to edit shipping cost & method
3.) Ability to edit payment method used
4.) Ability to process payment/refund using the order editor.
5.) I want the payment line to show on everything, so if a customer pays, it should add a line to the bottom of the page that shows payment. Screen would appear:

Total of products purchased: $xxx.xx
------------------------------------------------
Payment Method: $xxx.xx
------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
Balance: $0.00 "Thank you for payment"

I'm definitely in.

Come on everyone - jump in, this is an incredibly useful and important change.

Dan - regarding item 5. Do you mean have this additional payment information added to the invoice as well?

TOCDCO
TOCDCO
Yes. The reason is that I would like to be able to communicate this information to my accounting system automatically Smile

Great.

Who else is in then?

Dan I am not sure I follow this feature. Where does this apply? Is this so the customer can make changes after placing an order?

Kindly advise.

Regards,

Foxtrot,

This is so that admin's can edit the orders. All of this is for administrator use only. Currently, the order editing is EXTREMELY limited.

As you know, I have always been willing to share.

This type of feature has always interested me, it makes so much sense.

My only concern is the way the changed data is reported (available for download) for use in my accounts.

If there are enough people meaning the cost can be reasonable, I would be prepared to take a flier on this and trust that it would work for me.

Please keep my name on your list as I really am interested.

I don't think it is worth waiting too long before getting this under way.

With four of us already the individual investment is starting to become quite reasonable - so maybe only waiting a little while more for others to join then ask Viart to start.

Excuse me if it looks like I am dictating budgets or something, but you know how this one has stalled before. We don't want that to happen again. Wall Bash

Also, putting a short time frame on more expressions of interest might hurry up anyone who is hesitating. This is a great feature and would be really valuable to those participating in this customisation.

You are right Five5; but for me $75 is too much at present.
I would stretch to $50.

If it has to go without me that's sad but well understood.

Chris,

I agree. I would like to see us get this up to six people. However, I'm not going to wait months again. I will wait until next friday and will keep bumping this to the top until that time.

If we don't have that many people, I will just finance it by myself, and will distribute this to those that are willing to help out with a chunk of it.

BTW... I've added the ability to use coupons to the order edit screen so this will be great too

Thanks, Dan

It feels that I have spent a lot of money on Viart over the past year and my partner, rightly, questions whether we are using our services budget wisely.

Keep me on board - I will try to find a way to come in on this.

Regards

Hi Chris,

I agree - I am financially constrained and my Viart spend is 'monitored'.

Let's see if we can get six then. As I am also happy to stretch to $50.

Addition of the coupons makes sense - good job Dan.

If Viart will guarantee a quality job and deliver a truly comprehensive order editor, I'll contribute liberally to it.

I don't want a hack job like the Call Center, which lacks sufficient features to be useful in the real world. No coupons, no shipping estimates, etc. WHen people call in to order, I simply go to my live public site, and register for the customer and put in their first order. Nobody is the wiser, and I get the live shipping, coupon feature, etc. In other words, there was NO NEED for a 'Call Center'. Just do the work for your lazy customer using the same pages they should be using. THe CCenter was a customer's request, and not all that well thought out. Viart kindly built it for him and we all got whatever benefit it had free.

Back to the order Editor, I MUST see complete control over the order and CC refund or adjustments since people like to cancel orders or add things after they place one. The hard part will be using the payment system of the original order when it's PayPal, or some other thing besides CC.

I need to see final feature list and comprehensive details before ponying up money. I'll pay well for a good job.

By the way, let's not forget that you can query your Viart database like any other completely outside the Viart system. I use mine daily. I wrote a desktop application that loads my orders and the USPS Click-N-SHip in the right panel, and all I do is press 'Fill Form' to create my shipping lablels, beating the need for 3rd Party postage software, and beating having to type into USPS! I'm modifying it so it can use FedEx and UPS, and if anyone is interested, I'll do like Viart. Sell it reasonable and be responsive as possible. Point here was that for accounting and such, just make queries to your database. If you want help, get me offline at ed(at)edsets(dot)com

For whatever shortcomings any of us may perceive in Viart, I will assert that we are FORTUNATE to have partnered with a company that will modify code so willingly and quickly and for reasonable fees. NOBODY else in the business does that, and Viart will be my cart as long as they continue being responsive with a quality product.

To log in as the customer and place an order as if it's them... that's one of the most unsecure procedures you could possibly do.

First of all, I have MD5 encryption on ALL of my customer's passwords. I don't have access to their passwords. Also, to act as if I'm them and going through the site creating an account... that's not good business practice in my book.

I can create them a user account through my admin panel, and I can create orders as well. For the extra items, I have created "products" as items for things. For example, I have a product called coupon. I enter the amount of the adj through that. I also have a product called shipping. I have can enter the price for that as well. Of course these are products not available to the customer, but just to myself and the rest of my support team for creating orders.

Either way, we all have our best practices, but I don't believe in using the live site as if I'm the customer, unless I'm testing the site and then I would use a dummy account.

I see where you are coming from daviswe, but also I agree with Dan.

I use the live site to place orders on the customers behalf, but want to get away from doing that. Like Dan I have the user passwords encrypted and this makes using the live site only useful for the initial purchase. Secondly, it does not give me the flexibility of adjusting product descriptions and prices whilst creating the order like I can do in the Call Centre Orders screen. So this addition of order edit functionality would give me all I can foresee I need at the moment and keep admins using admin screens and users using user screens.

Eg. I just had a return customer place and order online. Then shot me an email saying, they could not find an accessory they were hunting for but proceeded without that in the order. They asked me to add the accessory and bill them for it.

This is a perfect example of where order editor would be very handy. Because at the moment I have to create a whole new order - work around the system adding another shipping charge, etc. Adding one item line to an existing order would be much better for the customer and admins.

I have all myu pages that have any kind of sensitive info as https, it's not at all unsecured. My host is well qualified to store all the data, so I really don't think it's a security issue to order for my customers. In fact, if they can do it securely, I can do it for them securely too. The internet does not know the difference. I just have secure access to their login info, and that's not really a bad thing. I'm not an evil-doer.

Thanks Five5. I will definitly be having this customization done, and then will distribute to those who want to contribute.

Therefore, when this addin is made, I will add it to CommunityExpansion's beta site as well as describe it in the manual as an add-in. I will also be putting this on that site for sale to those who want to contribute, but will definitely place yourself, and Chris, on a discount for it since you guys seem to be the ones supporting this.

ViArt will have the money for the enhancement on Monday afternoon.

Look guys, you know how I feel. This should be done by Viart at no cost because it is something that should be done regardless. I just don't understand why they would charge for basic stuff like this that people want. Having said that, I am in OK,. I will pay, put me down, let me know when to pay etc.

Dan, was this module completed for you? I just read this post, so wasn't aware of this being considered. Any possibility of getting in at this late date?
