google page rank
|
hi
i am currently in the process of optimizing my site for search engine success - specifically google.
I have a slight problem at the moment - most of my pages dont have a page rank (as shown by the google toolbar)
for example:
http://www.bestblanks.co.uk/ (has a page rank of 2/10)
however
http://www.bestblanks.co.uk/index.php doesnt have a page rank.
if you click on both links you will see they are the same page.
I cant figure out what im doing wrong.
thanks
simon

That's OK, how do you link to that page from your other pages? That is what google will pick up. Also, they most always know that both are the same page and will only index one. Also, don't worry to much about page rank. It is not as important as people think, and it is easy to get high page rank if you can afford it. One incomming link with high page rank will do it. High page rank does not usually translate to good search engine placement.

Jim is correct I have many interior pages that enjoy #1 & #2 positions for their respective keywords, however those pages have lower pr than the home page. The anchor text you use to link to the interior page is important also chose this wisley, using keywords that you wish to target. Work on getting a few link backs to your home page. Add dynamic titles to your category and product pages and for non-product page create unique titles. http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/help/search-engine-friendly.asp#title Without dynamic titles <title>BestBlanks.co.uk - Look at my shiny NEW products!</title> With dynamic titles <title>BestBlanks.co.uk - 120 DISC CD WALLET - PACK OF 4 CD MARKER PENS - 100 BLANK CDRs</title> Part of listing higher is your page titles, if I am a customer looking for 100 blank cdrs the site using those terms will appear higher.

thanks for the info - especially on the dynamic title and meta descriptions - did not know that existed but will certainly be using it. I might be coming back for some more advice on rankings but thanks for your help so far. simon

Hi, I am also in the process of optimizing my site for Google. I understand inbound links pointing to your home page is a good thing. I have about 20 decent sites linking to my home page. The problem is Google does not see them. I even went as far as putting my site map on the bottom of the home page so it would easily be accssed. (as well as 2 other text links pointing to my site map) Well, the googlebot came and left yesterday and when I go to Google and search link:http://www.saveonboating.com/ nothing comes up. Do I need my links to point to www.saveonboating.com/default.asp ? Do I need to change the homepage to index.asp instead of default.asp? Man this SEO business is no fun! Any ideas? Doug

Doug,
the googlebot came and left yesterday and when I go to Google and search link:http://www.saveonboating.com/ nothing comes up.
patience updates to the index rarely happend over night. First when checking for back links it seems google will only reconzie links from sites that have good pr, I have heard 5+ I can't confirm since I don't use the g toolbar. If you want to check your listings in google use site:www.yoursitename.com
site map on the bottom of the home page
For best results the sitemap link should be on all pages.
Do I need my links to point to www.saveonboating.com/default.asp ? Do I need to change the homepage to index.asp instead of default.asp? Man this SEO business is no fun!
No and No
