I would really like to see the ability to add a subcomponent (with a reduced or 0 price) to the cart if a coupon code is presented. It's great to be able to offer a reduced price on an item but also would be great to offer a bonus item for free via a coupon not available to everyone.

select the item to be allowed. Then, apply the selected coupon to that sub item. Then, allow the coupon to be used only once, and send the code to your customer That should do the trick for you.

I don't think this would work, t means that I have no way of mass marketing the coupon, furthermore, people could use the coupon without adding the right product to the cart.
Unless I misunderstod your method.

you can apply the coupon only to certain products, however, at present there's no option to restrict coupons to how many times a customer has can/has used it, and there's no reporting capability on coupons except for how many times it has been used total. WOuld be nice to be able to do further reporting on the coupons as it would be good for marketing purposes.

I think you aren't understanding me. I want a coupon to add another product to the cart, this can't be done in any way at the moment.

oh, so if you submit a coupon it will add a free product automatically?

yeah

So you make a coupon, apply it to a product or products and add a sub component (product) to get free or reduced price aded to basket.
