Hi,

Could you please let me know how to edit the files in messages/ja/ ?

Which editor do you recommend to use? Also, what character encoding do you use?

I am usually using EmEditor, but I get error message when I try opening those files in messages/ja/ . Also, I see many characters are garbled when I open the files.

Go to Administration > Static Tables > Languages
You then edit the file within your administration.
Alternatively I use Dreamweaver or TextPad.
Can't advise about encoding - perhaps another user will do this - or a Viart assistant?

Hi, just use the messages editor in Viart.

To do that, make sure the /messages/ folder + subdirectories in the Viart directory on server are set to CHMOD 777.

Then open Viart admin panel and click on System > System Static Messages. Then select Japanese and you can search and edit the language strings easily.

christopherO, DickS,

Thank you for your responses.

I was wondering if it was possible to edit the files directly, since I am planning to revamp all the messages in Japanese. The messages are garbled when I display them in browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera) as well.

Also, it doesn't seem that I can switch the language to Japanese from the admin panel. I haven't had time to work with it since New Year. I will try again to see if I can edit them from the admin panel.

Thanks again.

I did a little more reading, and I was able to add the icon for Japanese in the admin panel. I am editing the message files from the admin panel now.Smile

As a general help to those experiencing difficulty with UTF encoding not displaying in Html can I point out an Ädd On for Firefox called the Ünicode Tool/Converter.
