I created a second user type in the admin, but when people sign up as that type, they have to manually be approved one by one and they can't log in until they have been approved. I can't find this setting anywhere. Help!

Tim, go to Administration > Site Users > Users Types > Edit Type : Account settings
 
You can make all the changes and decisions you need
