We're setting up the fedex module and the man from fedex asked us if the Viart fedex shipping module can 'talk' to the Fedex Ship Manager software. He asked if it can export to a folder that the software could use.

thanks :)

First, let me say that I think Fedex does a great job helping merchants. We've had nothing but good experiences . . .

But getting viart to play ball is another matter, though it seems like they're beginning to try. right now viart is working on updating the fedex module to the latest fedex protocol called "web credentials" (used to be called API, which still works). As of this minute viart is still working with the old system, but the next version should work with the new fedex system.

However, when it's all said and done, viart will not expand its fedex feature to allow the printing of labels (I think that's what fedex is driving at with their questions). the viart module will only allow the quoting of shipping rates, not getting the actual label, which is more complicated and requires your viart installation being "certified" by fedex.

you will still need to use your web manager interface to get the actual label.

of course, viart told me they would work on this to print labels for a price.

FedEx ship manager imports the data for lable printing from a file exported from your system. During the Ship Manager setup process you'll remap the fields from viarts naming to fedex's naming.

Bacily every day you'll do and export of the orders to print that day, save the file locally and then import them to ship manager using the field mapping you already set up. It's pretty simple.

The viart module is just for pulling rates so it does not play a part in the export or label printing

Thank you for your replies!

I'm guessing then that I need to go to Orders.. Export Orders.. and choose the fields to export to a CSV file, then import that into the Ship Manager?

yep, since you'll be doing it every day you may want to just take the default export (since adding or forgetting a field will mess up ship manager).
