Hi

If I wanted to backup my code and switch web host, would it be easy to take Viart to a new server? If so, which files would I need to backup?

My guess is I would do the following:

1. Backup the files you suggest
2. INSTALL Viart on the new hosted server
3. Replace the files I backed up in step 1 (i.e DB)

Did I miss anything?

Thanks

There are a couple of "wrinkles" in doing this process.

One is that you need to remember that if you are using the same web address the "IPS-TAG" has to be "pushed" by the current server admins to the new one and this can take time and also for the new DNS information to propagate around the web to reach the name servers

Then for a live site you have to make sure the customers are presented with a holding page whilst you copy the DB between sites so they cant add to it once youve backed it up.

So I would allow for downtime as the switch is made with appropriate holding pages to inform customers.

If they are different web addresses then also consider a redirect from the old to the new site.
