Hi,

One of the listings on Viart is "Recently Viewed". Is this the most recently viewed products by EVERYBODY accessing the site, including other browsers and shoppers, or is this the most recently viewed products just only by you? If it is the most recently viewed by YOU is their a way to make it the most recently viewed by EVERYONE accessing the site? I hope this question is clear...

Thanks..

It appears to be recently viewed only by the current user. I too wish that it were most recently viewed by anyone.

Hi,

Yes, the 'Recently Viewed' block is only for one client who logs in and can return to the products he has just viewed. We would recommend you to use another block 'Top Viewed'. In this case all your customers can view the products that are most popular with other customers and which were viewed many times. This block also have some settings (like, how many top viewed products you want to show, in how many columns, etc.)

With regards,

Yes although the top viewed block shows the most popular products based on views.

It would be good to totally randomise this by showing the most recent products viewed by all users. E.g the last 10 products viewed by all visitors.

This would ensure that fresh content was shown in the list on a rolling basis and therefore allows clients to learn of products they may not have done otherwise.

There is a reason that the recently viewed is for the current visitor only - this is their log of activity do that they can retrace back to products that may interest them - you will find that Amazon, for example, works the same way.

I get a couple of thousand hits in a day and if it were recently viewed by EVERYONE, that would be a lot of updating* and the details would be meaningless to the individual visitor.

* it would be a lot of processing and, I imagine, would take a hit on site speed?

Fair enough Chris. I suppose it depends on the type of site.

There was never any doubt in my mind that there is a good use for the recently viewed products (by client only) block.

However my point really was if there was any use for a random block which would serve as a small "advert" for the different type of products we sell. I was using the recently viewed criteria to do that job although I suppose it could be set up to just randomly generate 10 products with less processing time. Each time a page was refreshed random item would appear in a short list perhaps.

On our site (unlike Amazon's) most of our products are suitable for all clients as we operate in a niche market and the product range has been developed based on what clients need or could use within their field of work. So I think most products would be of some interest. The intention was to display items they may not have seen otherwise without going through every category.

So unlike somebody who has been searching for books on science and not being interested in books on football our site is a little different.

I will check with Viart if this would be easy to implement.

Cheers

Dave
