Hello All,

I realized this topic was last discussed on 3/17/09, however I have a question concerning a problem with my newsletter opt-in block component on our web-store www.ocreef.com, which is running ViArt 3.6 Enterprise.

The problem is when a new user goes to input a email address, it states that the email is not valid. Please go to our web store www.ocreef.com and input your email address inside the newsletter subscribe form; notice that it puts a (%40) in place of the @ inside the actual email address. For example, if you go to www.ocreef.com and put in customercare@ocreef.com or any new email address it will state "email is not valid" and you will notice inside the form field that the email address will look like this customercare%40ocreef.com

Any help or advice that anyone can give would be great. I have looked inside my opt-in subscribe block file and do not see anything that would be causing this malfunction.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this.

If this cannot be fixed, how hard would it be since everything is layered, to add another php newsletter software to incorporate inside and work with viart cart/ cms, or would I just keep it separate. This may be a stupid question but I figured I'd at least ask. Thanks again.

Sorry this was posted twice, we wanted to log in to help keep track of anyone replying back with helpful answers.

Hello Ocreef,

I've visited your site, enter email address you gave 'customercare@ocreef.com' and as result got the following message:

"Congratulations! You are now a fully subscribed member of the newsletter."

It looks like it did what it should I don't know

When things get weird testing a site's behavior, always delete all cookies and temp files and try again. You might be dealing with "sticky" older settings. Good luck getting it to work.

Hell Everyone,

Thank you Monk for using my opt-in newsletter form; since you have signed up I have learned that my opt-in form works when using Internet Explorer. However it does not work when using Safari, Firefox or any other browser.

At least now I know it has something to do with being a cross browser compatibility issue, but I still have no idea as to how to fix this.

I have mentioned it to ViArt Support Team Member Michael, and he replied back to me that it appears to be a custom script on a non-Viart website and that they'll be unable to diagnose the problems. He also stated that it is likely that the algorithm in the custom script which detects email addresses (such as the @ symbol and domain extension) has a programming error and is therefore flagging all valid emails as being in the incorrect format.

However my newsletter opt-in form is using the original block scripting that came with my ViArt Enterprise 3.6, and my website is a ViArt Shopping Cart Website, so I'm not sure what Michael is referring to. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

If there is anyone out there who is has expertise in fixing an issue like this please let me know. I would be willing to hire someone if they know how to fix this. I would hire ViArt to fix this issue but they must be extremely busy with the roll out of the 3.7 version.

Last question, should I go with a different php opt-in newsletter software to run on my website, has anyone installed a different php opt-in newsletter on their ViArt Site?

Thanks for any help you can give; I'd like to get my newsletter fixed soon because I'm getting support tickets from customers letting me know it's malfunctioning everyday.

Thanks again everyone.

Dave,

Michael might be correct. I tested the same email address both in my site and your site using firefox. The system took mine but not your. I think what Michael is referring to is the opt in you are using is different than the out of the box viart version. who did your site? Bottom line is something was changed.

Hal,

Thanks for trying to help, it's appreciated, however...

The opt-in newsletter subscribe form is the original out of the box ViArt block scripting. If you'd like, I'll show you the block file for you to see the scripting/code for yourself for comparison.

If you try my newsletter opt-in form in IE it works, if you try it in any other browser it does not work. Other malfunctions include issues when sending out hundreds of newsletter mail-outs; which I always thought was a server issue.

Whatever it is, it's something rare I'm sure of, but again it is the original out of the box ViArt block subscribe file. If you notice, we have added the blue-button but that's about it. Even the text we kept, which is standard ViArt text.

I'm not completely sure, but I believe when ViArt Support Team Member Michael went to my website to view my newsletter for himself, he mistakenly viewed my (Live Chat Software) which is definitely non-Viart.

Any further help would be great. I have researched a few ViArt sites and several have changed-out there newsletter systems from the out of the box standard Viart system, can anyone recommend a newsletter or fix? I have noticed some Viart owners using Constant Contact Email Newsletter Form.

In conclusion, I really do like my Viart Cart Based Website, but as we all know a good working opt-in newsletter is a very important integral part of any good retail website; maybe with 3.7 this area will have also been addressed. I am looking forward to making the 3.7 upgrade, which I will let ViArt handle.

Any further help from anyone is appreciated. Has anyone used phplist newsletter?

quick update:

For the time being until we can figure out what the issue is with our ViArt Newsletter, we have taken it off, and we have installed Google Friend Connect Newsletter Program on ocreef.com. Has anyone used this Google Friend Connect Newsletter Program on their ViArt site?

Eventually, hopefully sooner than later I would like to get my ViArt Newsletter working properly once again, so I can control everything from the convenience of my ViArt content management system.

I'm still open to suggestions, help and/or comments; I'm also curious about the open source phplist newsletter software, which appears to have good ratings.

I'm also open to someone... an experienced tech, or even a good experienced freelance tech, being hired to take a look at and possibly repair my ViArt newsletter block file.

I'll also ask ViArt once again, maybe in about a month, but after they have rolled out 3.7, so they'll have more time.
