I have just had a phone call from PayPal.

To be compliant they expect to have the "Pay by PayPal Express Button" on the basket page. They say that the checkout is too late in the process.

Apparently my cost per transaction rises if I am not compliant.

I was told that a member of the integration team will call me about this. Hopefully Viart is aware of this issue and can get it sorted?

Hi Chris

Looks like it is very similar to the Google issue I had. They have done all the work on this to comply with Google, so hopefully it won't take too long on Paypal. Good luck.

BTW where are you located, cos I haven't heard of this in the UK?

Hi Kim

I am in Bristol.

I have to say it was a bit of a shock - this was the last thing I thought they were calling about. He started by reminding me the fee level I was on and went on to to make quite clear that if I did not comply my PayPal fees would rise. Between them Google and PayPal are getting a bit like the gestapo!

I told them that I could see no problem in principle and he condescended that I could keep my fee level with them whilst they sorted this out with me !!!

They also demand a PayPal logo on the home page - and then, almost apologetically, said it did not have to be very prominent so long as it was there.

Could I ask please Kim, how does Google handle delivery charges if they by-pass the form on your site. And what about Bonus Points - if a customer does not checkout in your site I presume this is also a problem?

I am going to get this follow up call and I have said that they will have to talk to Viart - let's see what happens Wall Bash

Are we facing double standards?
PayPal has set up partner arrangements with a number of retailers large and not so large retailers: https://www.paypal-offers.co.uk/

I have looked at a few and none complies with the requirements being put to me yesterday.

It seems important to look carefully at what is really required.

Where I have found the PayPal Express button in the basket - clicking the button does not take the buyer directly to PayPal but to a checkout page - in the merchant's site - dedicated to paying by PayPal (I think this is different to Google?).
