Hi all

Im setting up the admin area of a new site for a client and their products are going to need lots of specific specification fields added.

The issue I have is that they will want to use the admin and wont be able to really use the batch import facility.

Now, when you go into the "Specifications" properties for a product, only the "group" can be selected from a pre defined list.

The "Name" value cant be. Why is this? It means that my client will have to manually enter the name value for each new specification entered which is incredibly time consuming and repetitive.

Surly I can change this?
I can imagine I could do this by fiddling with the template files for the admin, but is there no other way?

Thanks for any help!

hi dan
sorry, what does your reply suggest? that using options & components is the answer?

your going to have to explain this as I dont see how it resolves my problem.

to reiterate, i dont want customers to have any interactive options. this is purely about providing a 2 step list box interface in the specificaiton area of the admin system to stop my client having to manually type specification values whenever they want to add new products to their shop.

If you go to Products > Products Types then there you can find a link for each product type to assign 'Predefined Specification' and there you can add predefined values as well for each your Group & Name.

Hi Monk

It seems my msgs arent clear enough?

I know about adding "pre defined" options. but even still, in the normal specification interface, when you add spec values to a specific project, i cant make the "Name" value appear with options from the predefined list in a drop down menu. It has to be a text box here it seems.

See what im getting at?

No, on the add product screen, nothing will be 'pre-filled' and only certain items are in drop downs.

- product type
- price type
- etc.

Im thinking you want weight, stock and shipping, and other information pre-filled... correct? That's not possible here.

hi dan

close, but your thinking of the wrong place

its not the add product screen which is where you add options. but as ive stated, its specifications so therefor on the seperate add specificaiton screen.

here, under the "Group & Name" area for each record added, i want a drop down for the 2nd value "name"
