My customer just noticed that when someone places an order, the stock level for the option (size) is depleted to -1, even if the stock level said 10 and the customer only ordered 1.
 
Has anyone else experienced this?

I have contacted Viart support. They replied that it was to reserve stock. I emailed them back that it shouldn't reserve all + 1 of the available stock.
 
So I still have no answer. I started to try to fix it myself, but I decided this is basic functionality and not something I should have to code - especially since this is for a paying customer.
 
Is anyone else having problems using option stock levels?

Please, read our below comments on how our stock level actually works.
 
First, you can set the basic stock level for a product. Let's say you have 10 items of this product in the stock. When your customer orders 1 item, for instance, then your stock level automatically decreases on 1 item even if you change the status of the order to a cancelled. In case, you delete the order, the stock level is again updated with this 1 item and your stock level will be again 10.
 
Also, you can a set stock level for options. For example, you have 10 items of one product and this product have several colours: 2 -white, 5- black, 3- yellow. You set the main stock level for this product as 10. Then go to Administration > Products > Options and Components and add an option colour. Then set the stock level for options in the Option values section. Save the changes and visit your site. Order 2 white items of your product. When the order is placed, the basic stock level for a product will decreased on two items (so, it will be 8 items) and the stock level of white colour will be 0.

How does the stock level work when you have 2 options, e.g. color & size?
 
How about when the option is set up as A, B, C, A & C, B & C, when the customer choose A & C for example, how to make the stock level of both A and C be decreased by 1?

I would have thought that they only way to use stock control in this case would be to have one option for each combination?
