Hi,

Has anybody come up with a smart idea for how Viart can differentiate between different UK locations when applying shipping costs.

e.g If I send a parcel to Scottish Highlands I usually pass on a ?8 surcharge to my clients.

However whilst I may be able to apply different costs by shipping country I do not know of a facility to split the UK up in to different sections by postcode etc so the correct surcharge or for that matter courier can be allocated.

No problem - set up shipping method UK - create a different shipping rule for each area.
I have the same issue (I am in Bristol malikstores.co.uk) and I have the following methods:
UK - MAINLAND ONLY - weekdays
UK - ISLE of WIGHT- weekdays
UK - ISLE of MAN - weekdays
UK - SCOTTISH ISLES - weekdays
UK - NORTHERN IRELAND - weekdays
- each with their own cost.

Sadly it cannot be automatic - all are presented to the buyer to select the right one but that has never given us any problem.
If you try to create a rule for each you will fall fowl of the payment provider systems.

Hope this helps you

Thanks Chris that has helped a lot.

Actually thinking about it, on our current site we actually ask them to choose their zone on entering the shop and then the correct price is applied throughout so they know up front. So it really what we are doing now the other way round which is a much better solution as it used to put some people off going any further into our site as they thought they were commiting to something and at such an early stage in the process this was not good.

Maybe the system could query the county or town from a drop down list as it does the country when offering different shipping options e.g if shetland is chosen only the shipping method for there is displayed as it does for certain countries.

I have also asked Viart what they think and will copy you in on the response.

Hi Chris,

The new version lets you specify country and importantly state as a criteria for shipping method.

You can add UK counties to the static table "states" and then allocate the correct courier or delivery charge.

We use Business Post but also Fastway Couriers. Fastway charge 2.95 for local same delivery, ?4.95 to their covered areas and then ?7.95 upwards to other areas where they sub contact the delivery. So what we do is send everything we can with Fatsway for ?4.95 or ?2.95 and then the rest we send Business Post.

So what we can do now is allocate fastwat as the courier for counties they cover and all the others get the system to only offer Business Post.

I am in discussions with viart to get this down to postcode or town level which will give great functionality for our UK orders.

Let me know if you come up with any good ideas your end!!

Hello Dave

We started using City Link - quite good but occasional fulfillment hiccups - they charged us STG 5.60 up to 5 kg nationwide next day delivery : and Parcel Force who are cheaper for larger deliveries with a 2 day service.

We have now replaced City Link with Interlink Express at a similar price but with better international (EU) coverage at better prices.

All services do,of course, charge extra when crossing water - inc IOW! And that is where I have to price accordingly.

Cam I see your shop - what is the URL?

Regards

Chris

Fastway don't yet cover Bristol yet.

Our current site is www.essentialoilsdirect.co.uk Its 8 years old hence the Viart purchase as we quickly need a facelift. It does however allow clients to choose a zone (when they enter the shop) and apply the charges accordingly. personally

At the moment I have not added shipping rules, methods etc to my Viart site, I am getting the products loaded first etc.

I have had a few issues after a upgrade to 3.4.1 mostly fixed now as a result of posting in the forum, just one thing is puzzling m,e at the moment at that is the "wish list type" function is not showing the products section in admin and yet it is in trial version I have set up.

Ah well lets see what Viart say.

Thanks

Dave
