I can't believe that a wait for just an upgrade of an already excellent cart is such a life and death issue I don't know

well the issue for our shop is the coupons, discounts thats now almost impossible to do.
the new update has a beter feautre.
 
my boss came wit inter spire, i has test it(in demo) and look at the demo video, i must say it looks great, and there is a good way to handle discounts, also some cool things for adwords etc and this company is easy to reach. but no multi shop function, and i find the backoffice(order handling) very complex. so i prefer to stay at Viart;)

Note, too, that Interspire costs $1799 for the full-featured cart, plus 50% of that PER YEAR to maintain support and updates! ViArt is a MUCH better deal.
 
I looked at Interspire as well, but after noting the pricing setup and seeing the comments on various online forums, I definitely decided against Interspire and in favor of ViArt.

i did not know that there is also a fee of 50% each year for updates (the have updates kidding) but i was looking at the one for 1000$
each year 500 for updates is more crazy then Microsoft;)
 
We just wait a bit longer for the good stuff of ViArt.

Yeah, at least it was earlier unless Interspire changed their policy. Very hard to find out what their exact policy is on their website.
 
The forums had quite a lot of comments about unfair pricing policies and unresponsive support last year.

More data.... I use Interspire's Email Marketer for auto-responders and newsletters. I paid $250 for it, then found it was $50 every 6 months to get any support or even bug fix updates. Meantime they've doubled the price for that software to $500, and recently announced that annual support is now $250 per year. They tried to sweeten it by telling me my $50 support would be extended for an extra year before the new rate kicks in. Shock
 
The emailing program has some good features and I think I could integrate it with ViArt with some effort. But I also find it a cumbersome program to navigate, for instance searching for someone by email is quick, but by first or last name or other fields is TEDIOUS. It makes me appreciate ViArt's nimble and fast searches.
 
I was originally tempted to go for Interspire's shopping cart too, but beyond the incredible cost and support fees, it lacks a help/support center and some other things I appreciate about ViArt. Sometimes I explore other carts just to see what's happening, but they always lack features I've come to count on. No shopping cart is perfect, but after 2+ years with ViArt I sincerely think it is the best!

I think another way to spell "Interspire" is G-R-E-E-D. I am SO glad that ViArt exists!

On the subject of email marketing:
 
www.aweber.com I have found to be excellent for email marketing. From only $19 a month web hosted etc etc great auto respnders and link up to to hosted rss feeds and blog brodcasts etc
 
They are white listed with all the isp's and my number of opens increased 2 fold after coverting from interspire.
 
there is a reason for that though as they do not let you simply import names, if you do add a previous list these have to opt in one more time before they are added to the aweber list.
 
I kept interspire going without support as every now and again I import all the email address of registered users from the va_users table not previously asked/subscribed to newsletter and send them 1 final email offering them the chance to sign up for our mailouts, if they refuse I don't bother them again. I find though that over 50% subscribe if they can click one link staight through tp the sign up form.

the Manual (or part manual) for 3.7 seems to have been removed... or has there been a problem with the site? I noticed it was inaccessible for a while earlier...

...this question is purely out of interest... not any kind of moaning or finger pointing....
Does anyone know the reason for the continued delay in release of 3.7 (and the current abscence of comments from Viart on the subject)... is the update to 3.7 just a larger task than initially anticipated...? are there more bugs to resolve than anticipated...? has there been a change in staff members...?
I'd be interested to know.. these (and many others) are perfectly legitimate excuses.. and so long as 3.7 is still being worked on (!) Viart have my full support... I'd just like a glimmer of insight into how progress is going... I personally have been holding back the release of a new (replacement) website for a couple of months now so it can make use of the CSS etc in 3.7... so I am very keen to get hold of the new version...

I don't imagine there is any significant change in people - Viart always gets optimistic about release dates.
 
If anyone should have concerns it is people like me (and others sharing with me) who have paid for more customisation post 3.7 - and I am certainly not concerned.
 
Last upgrade Viart got bad comments from some users for releasing too soon and having bugs to sort out. Perhaps they are now being very, very careful?

Just incase Viart staff read this post.. it really would be helpful if you could give us some indication of how long away the 3.7 release is... Just an approximation.. is it days, weeks or months...?? ...this would mean we can all get on with the rest of our lives instead of spending all our time wondering and getting a little more frustrated each day...
 
Your loyal customers have invested a great deal of time and money in your software (we have actually paid for updates to the software as part of our purchase price, so we're not asking for something for nothing) - we are genuinely interested and excited about this release... if it going to be 'X' more weeks before release.. then so be it.. but please just give us some indication of how long...

ViArt have been criticized before FOR giving dates (which they could not meet). It seems that no matter what they do, someone is not going to be satisfied. We all can guess that sometime this year the new version will arrive. But I don't think we can fairly demand much more than that, other than, perhaps, something very vague like "several months, we hope." Better to under-promise and over-deliver.

I think the problem people are having is that a couple of months ago the imformation from Viart suggested that the release was only days away.. to get to the stage where you are talking about the release coming out in a week or so, you would expect that the software was pretty much complete apart from a few small details... so how come that suddenly balloons out to several weeks.. then months.. what has changed to delay the product so much... it is this uncertainty that I believe people have a problem with..
I'm not knocking Viart - they seem like a great company and have a great community built up around them... and that's the point we are all interested.. we were told the release is coming, it's coming... it's coming soon... it's delayed for a while.. then nothing... no comment for weeks...

This was their mistake and why they are now gone silent... From now on I expect they will not make any announcements of a release date until the day they actually release the software. This is consistent with a number of other software developers I deal with and it's fine with me. It's putting out expectations that are then not met that is frustrating, and I am sure the ViArt people have learned their lesson about that. For now, I say let them do their jobs and have patience. This product is worth waiting for.

The delay is mainly caused by the major advancements in ViArt Shop Content Management System (Viart CMS) and the development of upgrade script aimed to preserve old settings within updated database structure. Unfortunately it takes longer then expected.
