I agree that it's a little silly that we pay for the new features as customizations and then we pay again to upgrade to the new version. Isn't the upgrade fee the cost of the new features that we're getting? Doesn't make sense to charge the customer twice. If they are going to charge for customizations (fair), then they shouldn't charge for the upgrade (not fair)!!

Dan, Viart is this is what the customer intended, namely, ChrisO

But he is not replying or explaining the logic behind this feature as he was the one who paid for it.

I do agree that once the payment has been made for a new feature, the updates should be free. Otherwise, this is just unfair

The funny thing would be me paying another $200 to fix the issue ChrisO introduced and after my fix is added, ChrisO's shop will be broken.

That is a bit wierd, who gets to keep what and how can it be guaranteed that my payed feature will not be broken with the next update because someone payed to change it? Searching

This is serious issue and this needs addressing.

Either someone from Viart comes in or Chris.

Is this a feature or a Bug ?

Where did ChrisO go? Would be great to get his feedback.

With Viart I've given up discussing this. They say "It's how it is supposed to work, if you want it changed pay us".

I presume you don't mean me - as this was not mine

Ibn Saeed
Yes, I assumed that it was you who paid for this feature

*confused* Wondered who did...

Anyway, the bottom line its not working the way it should for us and the behaviour is inconsistant. Should we really pay Viart to fix it?

I dont think we should pay for a Logical Bug.

Its a logical bug as far as i am concerned.

If it wasnt ChrisO, then whose feature is this ?

We worked around this by putting a "1" in the max quantity for the product coupon, but it's a workaround atm.

I truly hope Viart sees the light one day on this logical bug.

Thanks for the info on the workaround

This shows a basic flaw in the way customising is done.
I fear the problem of producing a camel from a committee designing a horse ... but perhaps the new sharing arrangement is so useful?
If Viart announced that they were commissioned for a feature and asked whether anyone else was interested that would get more involvement.
Then Viart could post the [FINAL*]proposal for comment before committing it to action.
There has to be a way for proper analysis and comment without a long process of everyone wanting different things and nothing getting done!!

Ibn Saeed
Ibn Saeed
I agree with ChrisO

But then how do we convince Viart to start such an arrangement.

I agree too, just imagine just because I am rich I can have Viart built the system just like I want and perhaps breaking a lot of functionality for everyone else. Lucky I am not , but still there must be a process to prevent custom features that are not logical or targetted to a specific audience to be available separately.

My suggestion is: Viart to offer all customizations (after client OK), on the website as "plugin" to Viart with a small description. That way the base Viart remains clean but you can browse plugins and add them.

Excellent idea

Just as Oscommerce has a seperate contributions area where one can choose which contribs to add

I think Viart should take this into serious consideration but they do need to remove the "Feature that is a Bug" Discount Quantity.

SajMalik
SajMalik
Dick, that is so simple and sensible.

Some new features would financially not be so viable whilst others would well reward Viart for their work. On balance Viart could earn more and users could feel better served. Win-win!!!

If Viart wanted to put a time scale on the 'plug-in' before integrating it into the main program to save it all looking like a fragmented mess [especially plug-ins that appear as a logical part of the main program] that would be fine also - so long as the integration date if published at the start.

And, of course, Ibn Saeed, the problem with --the "Feature that is a Bug" Discount Quantity-- would not be an issue I don't know

Hello,

Thanks for all your discussions.

Actually, the logic of the coupon functionality you are debating about is a little bit different from the one Dick describes. This is an incorrect description 'With it you should be able to set how many times the coupon is applied when there are multiple same products in the cart."

The functionality our client ordered and paid separately was designed to make it possible to apply a coupon when there are multiple same products in the cart (not one item) and this kind of discount is applied
to each item if the quanity of the items can be divided by a number specified in the coupon quantity field, namely:

Example 1:
Coupon - Discount: $2.00 Quanity: 1
Some Product ($10.00)
In case of any quantity in the basket the coupon will be applied to each product, like:
Qty: 1 - Some Product ($10.00 - $2.00 x 1 = $8.00)
Qty: 2 - Some Product ($10.00 - $2.00 x 2 = $16.00)
Qty: 3 - Some Product ($10.00 - $2.00 x 3 = $24.00)

Example 2:
Coupon - Discount: $2.00 Quanity: 2
Some Product ($10.00)
In case of any quanity in the basket the coupon will be applied to each product, like:
Qty: 1 - Some Product ($10.00 x 1 = $10.00)
Qty: 2 - Some Product (($10.00 - $2.00) x 2 = $16.00)
Qty: 3 - Some Product (($10.00 - $2.00) x 2 + $10.00 = $26.00)
Qty: 4 - Some Product (($10.00 - $2.00) x 2 + ($10.00 - $2.00) x 2= $32.00)

Example 3:
Coupon - Discount: $2.00 Quanity: 4
Some Product ($10.00)
In case of any quanity in the basket the coupon will be applied to each product, like:
Qty: 1 - Some Product ($10.00 x 1 = $10.00)
Qty: 2 - Some Product ($10.00 x 2 = $20.00)
Qty: 3 - Some Product ($10.00 x 3 = $30.00)
Qty: 4 - Some Product (($10.00 - $2.00) x 4 = $32.00)

So you get the discount for each product only if you buy the full pack with some number of items in it.

Therefore, it is not a bug really, but rather a functionality that works in the way we described above.

We can offer to make a new order coupon functionality (instead of a product coupon) where you will be able to specify the appropriate parameters which will limit the applying of this coupon only once to one particular product in the order. However, this will be a new separate functionality and not the modification of the current 'Discount Quantity' functionality.

With kind regards,
ViArt Support Team
