I'm trying to understand the relationship between my hosting service login and the Viart login. If I change my hosting password, neither my public or admin sites with Viart will load, complaining about a DB error. Assuming it's the mySQL login that is the problem, I can launch mySQLAdmin and change the pw manually, but the site still won't load, so I have to go back and revert my pw on the hosting site to load my Viart system and public screens.
 
ANyone know how to do this simple password change?

Ok, you would think there would be a way to do this without editing a php file, but ok if that's at least understood.
 
Unless Viart says otherwise, here's the easiest way to change the password:
 
1. Go to your working site, and change the password for the administrator account. You won't get into it unless you do this first.
2. Edit the file using a file manager "/includes/var_definition.php" and put your new password in this file manually (its obvious where it goes)
3. Then go to your hosting account and change the password there.
 
At least that's what worked for me finally. Yes, you may be able to use mySQLAdmin to do this otherwise, but it is really an annoyance to do all these steps.
 
I think a simple script like 'change Viart PW' that does the first two steps would be handy if anyone is interested in writing it.

For security purposes, you really don't want to have an available script to change your db password. That's one of the biggest security breaches...

Not any more of a problem than any of the scripts that use passwords now in the system. If you can't run a script on your site to change a password, then your site is so unsecure you may want to re-evaluate! After all, Viart IS a big script, and you change your admin password in Viart using a script...

Right, but you don't want someone to be able to just go to a link and change the admin password without actually loggin in to ViArt right?
