In trying to play around with the demo, everything seems to be american. Why am I trying to reinvent the wheel, surely there must be a UK setup version.

In trying to see what the cost is to buy it, its in $, but in selecting the UK flag, the price changes from $ to ? and NOT ?

This is what I find with shopping carts and ecommerce, dear old UK is left out of it. I thought I had got a good bit of software at first.

No, UK is alive and well, it is just not default. First go into global settings and set default country as UK.

The go into orders>currencies and change the default currency to GBP.

Thats it...

Cheers

What about states and counties, and shipping etc etc.

I've been throu this problem with Oscommerce which is open source and free. Setting up the variables and then hacking into every program to get it the way you want it too be.

It seems like this is going the same.

If you are selling a product for the UK market, surely you expect it to be setup for the UK market. Its like buying a car, you would not expect to swop over the steering wheel etc etc.

I know what you mean, it is frustrating to have to re-learn everything

Yes I have been that route as well with osc, but it wasn't hard after you have messed up as many times as I have, the whole thing now takes me about 15 minutes.

Anyway, you are right, you would have to set up a new static table named counties, and you would probably be able to enter the counties into the database using a mysql query (possibly using the oscommerce counties mod). Then you would have to hack the customer profile page and if you wanted to administer that in the admin, you would have to hack the static tables.php in the admin...... aaarrrggh too much hassle.

However, counties are pretty much unnecessary now, as everything is done by postcode. The only real reason for the USA states to be added is because they all have different local taxes, and shipping is obviously a very different kettle of fish if you are delivering to somewhere 2,000 miles away across a whole continent.

What I am saying is, don't break your neck doing counties, cos we dont really need them.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, perhaps the tech boys will help you on Monday when Eugene gets back from holiday...

cheers
