Here are some unrelated functions I wish viart had.

Viart guys: I hope you can make some of them reality, if not for this christmas for the next!

1) The popup file manager that you use to select downloadable products, assign images to products etc doesnt support folders and browsing through sub folders! Currently, my clients, 2 of which use viart only with downloadable products must put all their music tracks in one flat folder structure due to this limitation. This is a must to fix!

EDIT: I have since edited the popup pages php code to support a single level sub folder structure to get around this limitation. If anyone is interested in seeing it let me know.

2) The CMS / File Manager allows you to delete files in viart, but this isnt possible in the popup file select tool. It would be nice if this was available here as well, as well as folder creation. In other words, the file manager shown in the popup! When your uploading files its very useful to be able to order and structure the files in that moment without having to go to the file manager tool and then back to where you were.

3) Allow friendly url values to include slashes, allowing for a structured deep path to be created. E.g., if you have a 2 level category structure with the top level called "Genre" with sub categories under that, I would like the friendly url "/genre/rocknroll" to be valid. Currently this isnt possible.

4) Better error checking in the admin system when friendly url duplicates are reported. Currently, if you add a value that already exists you get notified but not where the conflict exists. This is very frustrating and can take many minutes to find the problem item that has the original url value. There are many areas of the admin where friendly urls can be added so you sometimes have to navigate all over the admin system in order to find the problem value.

5) Improving the WYSIWYG editor. its incredible that it doesnt allow you at the moment to select existing ahref links and update them! Your expected to edit the source code to edit existing html links in the copy!!!

6) Allowing the categories Import/Export function to work like with products, that allows for filtered results to be exported. Currently Import/Export only works with all records. Categorising products and managing these categories would be much more manageable if this worked as suggested.

7) Better reporting! I was shocked to discover that viarts sales report cant display the categories assigned to sales and show/list/sort results in the report on the categories setup to your products.

8) Allowing the system to cope with multiple language filesets. If the messages folders could be stored under the templates folder structure it would be much more configurable for advanced site setups.

9) A built in thumbnail mode list view for the main products listing page products.php. This is possible with advanced customisation of the viart templates but its time consuming to do.

10) Adding friendly urls to the CMS Filters function.

If people agree with any of these changes please reply to this topic so that the guys at viart know too!

Thanks Arkid,

Your list of ten all sound great. My favorites:

1 - smarter popup file manager

5 - HTML editor. I would love if ViArt could go with tinymce or a similar editor. So, able to format headings, and as you say come back to links, graphics, tables etc. to select and edit them.

6 - select which categories to export

7 - more reports would be nice

The features in ViArt so far are incredible. The two biggest need areas to make me more efficient are the html editor and accurate documentation. They've added great contextual help notes in a few spots. I'd love to see more of it, maybe with clickable question marks to help keep the pages uncluttered.

Yes I second that, they really must update their PDF and general web documentation. Im so aware that I am often raising support tickets for things that I feel should be in the manual.
