Now that we have agreement to share this option I am setting out below the brief for Viart.

Please respond with any points that need clarification and on anything that is missing.

Hopefully we can all get agreement by very early January so that we can get this to Viart.

Chris

One Page Checkout
-------------------------

An optional feature that allows admins to either stay with the existing set up or use this OPC approach.

OPC is intended to allow customers to checkout on one complete page without having to ckick continue to add more information.

OPC will be modular allowing Admin to place the various element anywhere on the page thereby creating a bespoke checkout page as required.

The blocks that could, by admin selection, make up the checkout page.

Each block to have provision for admin to insert text to allow for instruction, explanation or information to be placed to assist the customer using that block

The blocks will be:
Coupon
Points Balance
Personal Information
Shipping Address and Details (admin option for Invoice Address to be automatically inserted)
Shopping Basket
Payment Methods
Shipping Options and details
Payment details - if using card payment - with link to external payments such as Paypal.
Pay Now Button

Error checking - warning for missing required information each time the customer leaves a block rather than go through the check in one operation at the end - more user friendly. This saves going back over the page to find the missing information.

Chris this looks good.

Only additional note would be the ability to localize the admin inserted text. I would assume they would use the [en]Hello[/en] [es]Hola[/es] method.

Credit Balance is also required.

Hello Five5 - could you please explain this to me - something I don't seem to use?

Credit balance is KEY to me as well. I MUST have this option.

SajMalik
SajMalik
No problem - I'm happy to include it - would just like to understand it - I presume you have customers running a credit balance to spend against future purchases?

Chris

Actually, I don't use credits just yet - but am forward thinking that I will in the next few months.

Hi Dan, can you chime in here and brief us on credit functionality/data presentation during checkout?

Given that there are no other comments I plan to put this to Viart during the next couple of days.

I will post responses here.

May I wish you all a prosperous 2010.

Credits work just like the points balance. When I refund an order, I refund it to credits. Then, a customer can use their credit balance in turn as cash/payment.

Hope this helps.

if they can use points, credits work same way, but just needs to have the field opion available

SajMalik
SajMalik
Understood Dan. Yes - that clearly must be included.

Best wishes

Hello Everyone,
Wish you all a happy 2010.
Can we have the "Mode Of Payment" printed on Invoice and Packing slips. It will help us to identify the order whether it is already paid or its on Cash On Delivery.

I think that this would be a separate mod to the checkout process - it would be a change to invoices, but I suspect that it would not cost much to get Viart to do this as a new feature.

Hello all

Here is the correspondence with Viart with my final go ahead at the end. Once I have Vera's OK on this I will mail everyone to make payment.
You all have my e-mail address. Please feel free to contact me if you wish - but postings here also help everyone else on the project.

BRIEF SENT:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Hello

I have taken over the One Page Checkout feature that Ibn Saeed originally discussed with you. He told me that you quoted $600 for this and I have gathered together a number of users [http://www.viart.com/one_page_chrckout_final.html] to share the cost and each will make their payments to you upon agreement from you to get started.

This is my understanding of the project and has been accepted by all users sharing this with me.

Please confirm that you are able to proceed on this - I understand it will be released sometime after the next upgrade and I hope this will still mean sometime well before Easter 2010?

We hope that language codes such as [en]Hello[/en] [es]Hola[/es] will work in the blocks.

VIART RESPONSE:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As we pointed out before this feature is a very complex one and takes a lot of time to implement and the price we named you is far from its real cost. That's why we cannot include everyone's wishes while doing it.

What we're going to provide is the basic feature to fill out all order details on one page. Also possibly we will add some enhancements to improve checkout process.

-- Messages for payment blocks
If necessary you could add custom blocks with explanation instructions or modify appropriate HTML templates to show additional comments.

-- Language tags
This is a basic functionality so for sure it will be available on one page checkout as well.

-- JavaScript check for mistakes
It is not planned to implement, the check will happen on clicking 'pay' button.

It's too early to name any possible dates on OPC completion as releasing a new version is our priority at the moment and we'll proceed to OPC only after this.

If there are any questions left, please feel free to ask.

MY RESPONSE TO VIART TODAY:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Helo Vera

Thank you:

1: All work will be through me; whilst several users will pay, I will deal with all queries. I expect that once we have agreed the following we should not have any significant matters to resolve.

2: Messages - yes, we can use custom blocks - happy with that.

3: Javascript - understood - one check at the PayNow stage is agreed

4: BLOCKS

a: can we please be sure that there will also be a block to show the
" Credit Balance " on the customer account?

b: Can we show points accumulated as a separate block?

------------------------------
If that is now all OK I will arrange for payments - please confirm.
Best wishes for a great 2010 to you and all at Viart.
Chris

Here is the Viart response:

===============================

Hello Chris,

Thank you for the greetings, our support team wishes you and your fellow co-forumers all the best in new year as well!

Regarding blocks -- we do not plan to make separate blocks for Points and Credit balance. As we basically just going to program the ability to fit all checkout blocks on one page Points and Credit balance will remain exactly where it is now - in Shopping Cart block.
In case somebody feels necessary to create separate blocks for balance and accumulated points they could always use custom blocks for this.

If you need any additional information, you are always welcome to contact us.

With regards,
Vera
ViArt Support Team

In truth I am happy with that - we do still have these in the checkout.

Any further issues - or are we all now ready to pay and get this on the road?
