1. I've been waiting to buy until 3.7 is out but I really need to get a move on with the new project. Any ideas if 3.7 is imminent?

2. If I go for 3.6 how difficult will it be to upgrade to 3.7 when it comes out?

3. If I buy 3.6 today to I need to add all the patches in the 3.6 Patch thread or are the already incorporated?

4. I bought a copy sometime ago for another project. If I buy a second copy how do I ensure that is married up with the account I already have.

Many Thanks
Bob

Hello,

Please kindly find below our answers.

1. I've been waiting to buy until 3.7 is out but I really need to get a move on with the new project. >Any ideas if 3.7 is imminent?

It is in the final stages of development so a beta version should be available quite soon.

2. If I go for 3.6 how difficult will it be to upgrade to 3.7 when it comes out?

The main problem will be design which would literally need to be redone because version 3.6 is table based and 3.7 is div-based.

3. If I buy 3.6 today to I need to add all the patches in the 3.6 Patch thread or are the already >incorporated?

No you don't need to download any patches as we regularly update the downloadable version of Viart Shop on our site with new fixes.

4. I bought a copy sometime ago for another project. If I buy a second copy how do I ensure that is >married up with the account I already have.

"Design would literally need to be redone" sounds harsh. I am assuming (hoping) that the following are true:

1. My html will still display fine, so there is no hurry to convert my site to div-based html

2. A lot of people, like me, have probably done their html editing in another program and then pasted the results anyway.

If these statements are true, then wouldn't Bob's question more boil down to "Hey, is the cart logic and database going to be the essentially the same, and will our products, categories, coupons, articles, etc. etc. still work? How many things will break apart and how hard will it be to make the cart functional?"

I am REALLY looking forward to version 3.7. My hope is that I can get my site up to speed somewhat quickly and then re-do the countless html entries at my leisure. Does that sound right?

Yes of course, products, categories, coupons, articles etc. will still work okay after upgrade. As mentioned before all ViArt templates were changed to Div structure and therefore CSS will need to be changed to work with new structure. The upgrade will go smoothly only for those users that didn't make any changes in ViArt files, specifically html templates and who use default ViArt layouts.

So to answer your question Bob, we can recommend to start developing a new site on version 3.6, filling it with products, articles etc. but to refrain from doing any changes in ViArt files and to use one of the default layouts offered with ViArt Shop. Then when version 3.7 comes out you won't have any problems upgrading and wouldn't need to pay any fees for upgrade.
