I'm having someone help me build a website very similar to his (he uses viart too), and to save lots of time he wants to know how he can transfer his transfer some of his files to my page, particularly the file which has pictures of his products. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How about if he simply copies his website as-is onto your server and then change whatever is needed. All his pictures would of course be there to start with. You could use regular backup of his ViArt program on the server plus a backup of his database, and delete what is not relevant.

That's not a bad idea, but unfortunately our layouts are much different (the only real similarity is the products section) and we've already put a lot of time into mine. He says he's been able to just transfer certain folders over before but can't remember how.
