Categories are 'parents' to forums and are used to hold a group of forums. Your users are unable to post their messages to categories, they can only post their threads to forums. A site which has only a few forum discussion boards may not need any categories. However, if your site has a lot of forum modules, it will be useful for you to create a category.
To create a category go to Administration > Forum and click the New Category link. Then you should fill the following fields:
The first option Allow view category to gives you you the posibility to permit or to forbidden your users to view the category you create.
Category Order field specifies the position you want this category to be. Higher numbers means this category will sink down in the list, lower numbers mean the category will rise up.
Type in a category name in the Category Name field. This name will be shown up when users visit the forum section.
Friendly URL field allows you to specify a search engine friendly URL for this category.
Short Description and Full Description fields require a short and full description for your category correspondingly.
After filling all these fields click the Update button and your category will be added.
If you need to edit an existing category, click the Edit link opposite the category you want to edit and make appropriate changes. Then click the Update button and your changes for this category will be saved.
